The Aerospace States Association (ASA) has selected Charles H. Huettner as its new Executive Director. Mr. Huettner is the President of Charles Huettner Associates L.L.C., a consulting firm specializing in cross-agency aviation strategies, problem solving and coalition building.
Lieutenant Governor Loren Leman, Chairman of ASA said, “I am pleased to announce that we have selected and have under contract Charles Huettner as our new Executive Director and La Rene Tondro as our Administrative Director. Charlie previously served as the Executive Director of the Presidential Commission on the Future of the United States Aerospace Industry and brings a wealth of background and information to our ASA team.” La Rene Tondro is the President of TSD Communication Services, Inc., a firm working closely with groups in the aerospace industry.
ASA is a bi-partisan representative of the grass roots of American Aerospace. It is a scientific and educational organization of Lieutenant Governors and appointed delegates from more than forty states. ASA was formed to promote a state-based perspective in federal aerospace policy development and to support state aerospace initiatives that enhance student/teacher education outreach and economic development opportunities.
While in government, Mr. Huettner served as the Senior Policy Advisor for Aviation in the Executive Office of the President, National Science and Technology Council under the Clinton and Bush Administrations. In this capacity, he planned and coordinated aviation policy initiatives between the White House, the Departments of Commerce, Defense, Transportation and State, FAA, NASA and associated Congressional Committees and interest groups.
In addition, Mr. Huettner has served on the White House Commission for Aviation Safety and Security and the National Civil Aviation Review Commission.
Mr. Huettner is an Airline Transport Pilot rated in the B-747, B- 727, and the Air Force C-141 Starlifter. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Management from the University of Akron and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Mr. Huettner retired as a Colonel in the USAF Reserves where he served as the Reserve Augmentee to the Air Force Chief of Safety. His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Combat Readiness Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
