Oklahoma Congresswoman Mary Fallin was assigned Wednesday to the subcommittees on both Aviation and Highways and Transit, her top choices. The Subcommittee on Aviation has jurisdiction over civil aviation, including organizations such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Highways and Transit subcommittee has jurisdiction over the construction of roads and other transit facilities.
“The Aviation Subcommittee and the Highways and Transit Subcommittee are extremely important panels of the Congress,” said Rep. John L. Mica (R-FL), Republican leader of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. “Congresswoman Fallin will be directly involved in how this nation addresses our increasingly congested airports and highways, and how we can improve the transportation infrastructure for Oklahomans and Americans across the country.”
Fallin has a history of working extensively on transportation issues, including both aviation and the construction of roads and highways. As Lieutenant Governor, she was the chairman of the Aerospace States Association and was instrumental in creating the Oklahoma Aerospace Summit and Expo. Working with both Governor Keating and later Governor Henry, Fallin also helped advance important highway legislation.
“I am thrilled that my committee assignments allow me to continue my work to serve Oklahoma’s vital transportation needs,” Fallin said. “The Fifth District stands at a major crossroads for Midwestern travel. Our highways and airport make transportation a vital issue to the people of our district and all of Oklahoma. I am happy to be in a position where I can help my constituents and my state.”
