Chapter Report

2025 2nd Quarterly Report

  • Maryland held its fourth Maryland Aerospace Day on February 20th at the Historic Inns of Annapolis immediately after the Maryland Aerospace and Technology Commission held its second meeting.  Both events went well and provided for great discussion, networking and camaraderie in support of the aerospace and aviation industry in Maryland.
  • Governor Moore recently announced Aerospace, and more specifically the applications of PNT in aerospace, as one of his three Lighthouse Sectors for economic growth within Maryland.
  • The Maryland Department of Commerce hosted a delegation of companies at the Avalon Airshow in Australia recently and will be hosting another delegation of companies and a booth at the Xponential trade show in Houston next month.

2025 1st Quarterly Report

  • The Maryland ASA Chapter in partnership with the Maryland Department of Commerce and Maryland Aerospace and Technology Commission (MATC) will be hosting the 2025 Maryland Aerospace Day on February 20th at the Historic Inns of Annapolis from 6 - 9 pm.  The MATC will be holding its second meeting preceding the reception in the same location from 4 pm - 6 pm and all interested members of the public are welcome to attend.
  • Governor Wes Moore recently signed an executive order to establish the Maryland Advanced Air Mobility Council which will lead the state’s effort to grow the Advanced Air Mobility industry while ensuring safety and privacy standards. The council will be composed of 12 members, including Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown, Maryland Aviation Administration Executive Director Ricky Smith, Maryland Department of Labor Secretary Portia Wu, Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Kevin Anderson, and Maryland Department of Planning Secretary Rebecca L. Flora.
  • Governor Moore has also signed an executive order to strengthen Maryland’s business climate and catalyze more economic growth in the state.  Among a number of changes to the structure of individual departments, the executive order identifies the lighthouse industries and sectors identified by the Department of Commerce: life sciences, information technology, aerospace and defense; as well as emerging subsectors such as computational biology, quantum technology, and position, navigation, and timing.

2024 2nd Quarterly Report

  • The 2024 Maryland Aerospace Day took place in Annapolis, MD on February 13th and was a great success.  In addition to individual engagements with elected leadership, Lieutenant Governor Miller hosted a roundtable discussion with leaders from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, NOAA NESDIS, Maryland Space Business Roundtable, Maryland Aviation Alliance, Space Telescope Science Institute, UMD UAS Research and Operations Center and Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.  The meeting was well received by all attendees and has spurred increased industry engagement to include future interactions with Maryland HBCUs.The day was capped off by an evening reception held at The Graduate Hotel in Annapolis.  The event included static displays from multiple organizations as well as comments made by leadership from the MSBR, the Maryland Secretary of Commerce and Lieutenant Governor Miller.
